sketch, thinking insomniac, vernelle noel, window

View outside class window

I did this sketch of the Dreyfus Building by I.M. Pei (built in 1967) on MIT’s Campus during a class. As I looked out the window, the juxtaposition of the strong building geometry framed inside the window’s grid, with the very soft and bright green tree as part of the composition was striking! I drew what I saw… coloring was done with my Prismacolor markers that I got out of storage this weekend.

Press Fit Chess Set

Today I am posting my assignment for my “How to Make (Almost) Anything” class. I figured I would share with you some of the work that keeps me busy and that has sadly reduced my sketching and posts. Hope you find it as interesting as I do. My website for the class is a “work in progress” and will change as time goes by.

Football in Brooklyn (post-Irene)

I did this sketch on the Sunday of Irene. Everyone was inside because of Irene and my brothers could not take it anymore. They all made calls and rallied their fellow footballers and got “a good sweat” going. After which they enjoyed this >>>. Thanks for a great weekend guys!

massachusetts, boston, thinking insomniac, vernelle noel, durgin park

Weekend lunch at Durgin Park, Boston

This is a quick sketch and painting I did while at one of my favorite restaurants in Boston, Durgin Park. I had dinner there for the first time in November of last year… and it was delicious! I went back last week and it was even better… well the weather made it better. The city was sunny, festive, and alive! I had the clam chowder (one of my faves), and a lobster roll. They were both very hearty and delicious. A wonderful waitress from Long Island served us. She welcomed us to Boston and recommended great items on the menu. I look forward to experiencing the city and I do hope I get some slivers of time to continue sketching and painting… MIT is no joke!
