Today I was leaving NY again heading back to work. This building under construction is coming along quickly.

Saw this sign at Zapata’s Tacos.

I have a busy day tomorrow… I am thinking of something new to do with my photos. A new topic, subjects,… If you have any suggestions, please suggest away!

Oh yes! A healthy, filling start to the day.

I was busy indoors all day. Took this photo when I went outside later on for some fresh air.

It looked like rain, but it blew over

After work I went to training. I arrived early.

vernelle noel, thinking insomniac, photos, photo journal, architecture, food, beauty, photography

Training was intense as hell today! There was absolutely no stopping. OMG! I was drenched, and my muscles spent! It was great, but whew! Dang! Exhausting.

I had a hankering for some ice cream, and I think I needed to treat myself to it.

Another productive day in many ways. By tomorrow, if not this weekend, I should be finished with my paper and have it ready to submit! After that, on to the next one.

You know the usual. Smoothie to go!

I went to work at a coffee shop this morning. I also met an awesome dog named Charlie. She made my day. So darn cute!

Today was warm and beautiful

Doors of the Schwab Auditorium. I love large, detailed doors. In fact, maybe I will sketch and doodle some doors. I find them so regal. I love a well designed entry and facade.

Beautiful!

vernelle noel, thinking insomniac, photos, photo journal, architecture, food, beauty, photography

Very well designed.

Blue skies

There’s a lot of detail to be uncovered in the clouds…

Today was another very productive day. Here’s to tomorrow!

The obligatory smoothie started my day today. I also added some yogurt to the mix. Today was a very productive day. Finished somethings on my to-do list. Reached the point of review of my paper, and chose to step away from it for a bit.

At work I was testing and prototyping stuff again. This will continue all summer, since research is always about learning as you go along.

After work, I had training. Today was intense! Sensei did not allow us to catch our breaths! Matwork, randori, throws, situps, judo pushups, one after the next, after the next. Whew! It was great though. No injuries, so all is well.

Today was a busy one. I didn’t even remember or get the time to take photos until late in the day. Whew! On my way home, I was wondering what to eat for dinner. I was feeling for something smothered in something. I was feeling for fries and something comforting smothering it. A memory of fries smothered in gravy came to my mind, I saw it on tv some time, I think on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Triple-D) with Guy Fieri. I decided, this what my dinner shall be. I stopped by the grocery and bought frozen fries, and a can of mushroom soup to make an imitation beef stroganoff.

I finally got the time to look up when I got home.

Lovely!

I baked my fries, and cooked my beef stroganoff…

Talk about it being just what I needed. It hugged me on the way down…

After having my very comforting dinner, I made bananas foster for dessert. Butter, sugar, bananas, lemon juice, pinch of salt to taste, and alcohol. I use rum or wine.

vernelle noel, thinking insomniac, photos, photo journal, architecture, food, beauty, photography

Voila! I usually cut my bananas into small slices. Today is the first time I cooked them as two large halves. I prefer cutting it into smaller slices, the caramelized sugar coats the surfaces of the slices more.

I topped it off with caramel condensed milk. Mmmm…

Here is a photo of my bananas foster (bananas sliced smaller) and yogurt. This photo was taken in Singapore in 2014.

Aaj bahut vyast tha! Today was a busy one. Looking forward to tomorrow.

This weekend was rainy. It rained all day and all night. Perfect weather for the couch, the television, food, and friends!

Perfection for indoors.

I met this sweetheart on Sunday. Her name is Autumn and she is a seeing eye dog. A Black Lab. She is soooo strong, so gentle, so attentive. Heaven has to be filled with dogs.

I marinated fish in a Korean BBQ mixture. I did it with chicken and wanted to try it with fish. I marinated them for just under 2 hours, then baked them at 350 until they were cooked. The seasonings really soaked through. Mmmmm! Spicy, tasty, delicious!

On Sunday I made somewhat of a frittata. Tomatoes, spinach, sweet peppers, cheese, onions, and cilantro. Then I poured beaten eggs over the vegetables and baked.

I kept working on my paper this weekend too. I love it. I love writing.

Dinner! Rice (which I cooked with flax seeds – I wanted to experiment), veggies, and my Korean BBQ fish.

Visual Journal-01 Nov 2011

I had a very nice day on Monday and thought I would share it with you. The best of the day was meeting Neil (correct name, Leo), one of the cutest little doggies I have ever met!

After the presentation by Lucy Walker on the way back to my building, I saw a lady and a guy calling “Neil!, Neil!”… I thought they were calling for a doggie (googie as Lozdogs says). I could not stop to help but I kept my eyes open and hoped they would find their loved doggie.  I went to the student center to get something to eat and as I walked in, I saw a guy sitting with a puppy. Anyone who knows me knows that I cannot see doggies and not attempt to play with them.  I stopped and asked to play with the little cutie and the guy asked me if I knew the dog. I was like “???” in my mind.. then I remembered the people calling for Neil. Bear in mind… where they were calling for Neil (Stata Center) is a ways from the Student Center.  Something clicked and I said, “Yes! That’s probably Neil!” I told the guy (Daniel) what happened on my way and we went over with little Neil in hand. Neil is a toy poodle I think… he could fit in a purse…

We walked back to Stata Center and found the lady hugging herself to keep herself warm looking for Neil… She was sooooooooo happy when she saw us bringing him.. She was emotional too and I totally understand… I took her contact info because she surely was in no state to remember anything… I emailed her later the night telling her how we wound up bringing Neil back to her, and how happy I was that all was well. Last night that lady (D) and Leo (the dog) surprised me with a wonderful gift of appreciation. She sent me an email which read in part,

“I would like to thank you SO MUCH for your help with finding Leo (his name is Leo not Neil). You have saved his life. Leo takes medications every 8 hours. If we didn’t find him, he would have soon started having breathing problems.”

Thank you so much D for your gift, and again, it was my pleasure! It got my doggie hugs. I will be by to give Leo a big hug soon!

Elz, LS, dog

Elz on the very first day I met him

My post today goes out to one of my best friends (a dog) LS who died suddenly yesterday morning. LS, aka Tiger aka Elz… or “A-lay-way-lay” when we would play, was very special. I met him for the first time in 2009 when I came home to Trinidad for a short stay. Where this dog came from I do not know, but I instantly liked him. He would come to my house, I would feed him and we would play. I returned toIndia and when I came back to Trinidad later that year, we met again. He was my dog; not legally, but he was.

He was so obedient, so calm, so balanced like Cesar Milan would say. Great with kids, my friends, family, and everyone in the neighborhood knew him for being a great dog. He would walk persons for transportation on mornings, and he would walk me back home at night if he saw me. Many times, I would try hiding from him so that he would not walk me out, for fear of vehicles, but he was way too smart for that.

Elz made his entry into my friend’s life before I knew him. Her husband got a stroke and from then on LS for some reason left his home next door and would stay at her house. They tried to remove him but he just kept coming back, until one day she decided you know what…maybe he’s here for a reason. If he wants to stay, let him stay. And he did.

ls, elz, a-lay-way-lay, tiger,

Elz - You asked for little yet gave so much

His owner was away for a month or more, and he would come to my home everyday for his food. He had his own bowl, place to sleep, and water dish. I fed him, bathed him, took care of him when we was injured or ill… I really loved him. This is how smart he was. He would come to my gate and if I wasn’t outside to see him, he would go to the neighbor’s gate. Why? Because their dog Scrappy (Skeedie Weedie to me) would begin barking (he didn’t like me having Elz over as it meant his hugs and kisses were now shared). When I heard Skeedy’s barking in that tone, I knew Elz was there. He would then saunter to my gate, dancing, and smiling with his sweet little self.

Saturday was extremely hot and as I was going out, I stopped in by my friend. Elz was there and left to walk with me. The road surface was also very hot but Elz was determined to walk me. I smiled as I looked at him tip toe-ing gingerly across the hot road. My neighbours knew him so well that they would open my gate to let him into my yeard, or call me to tell me, “LS outside.”

He walked my mom out yesterday morning and she too was distraught when she got the news. The entire neighborhood will be shocked. He was a very smart dog, amazingly smart. Everyone knows of “this little brown and white dog.” He was everyone’s friend. I was with him until he closed his eyes. My friend, her husband and I tried to help him but it was just too late. Times like this I really wonder about humans and who the real animals are. Elz, I just wanted to thank you for all the laughs and smiles you brought to my days.  It will be difficult not having you walk me this morning…very difficult. I miss you running toward me with that big doggie grin for your morning play. I will miss looking down the street for you when I get home at night. I will miss you terribly, but you have stored up treasures wherever you are. Love you, miss you, and thank you so much again. There will never be another like you. In the meantime, I will keep your water dish filled, your bowl ready, my gate open, and my arms wide open just in case we are blessed to be found by another dog like you.

Dedicated to all the wonderful Googies in this world.

Elz (200? – 17 April 2011)
